The Daily Star – Politics – Israel demolishes rights along with homes
“Forty-five Palestinians lodged an appeal to the Israeli Supreme Court against Israel’s plan to destroy their homes in the southern Gaza refugee camp of Rafah Tuesday, just as Amnesty International criticized the court for failing to protect internationally guaranteed rights to housing.”

The thing that Amnesty and all the other liberals need to be asking themselves is, “if the tables were turned, would a Palestinian government even allow Israelis access to their courts at all?” That an Israeli court will be guided by the mandate to maintain the security of a Jewish state is to be expected and will, of course, make the outcome lean against the Palestinians, but Israel and its courts to their great credit recognize that Palestinians do have rights. Sometimes this recognition of the rights of nominal enemies may seem a weakness whether in Israel or the US, but perhaps that’s the reason that the vast majority of Palestinians want their own state but don’t don explosive vests to achieve it.
