Yes, both articles are referring to the same expert , Marcel B. Matley, a handwriting expert. Matley verified the signatures, but said with regard to the actual documents “There’s no way that I, as a document expert, can authenticate them…” Aside from the glaringly obvious fact that he’s only an expert in handwriting, he noted that they were working with copies.
Anyway, the New York Times Sept. 14 headline will be that CBS offered new experts supporting the memos and the Washington Post will have a headline saying that the new expert didn’t support them. Kudos to the Post for honesty and journalistic integrity even when it runs against their liberal editorial position. Shame on the Times for putting partisanship so far ahead of the truth that they are still touting these memos as true in the face of mountains of doubt.
