A couple of thoughts
Not only does he owe the village $9,210 in fines for the two 5-foot Santas in front of his store (village code prohibits outdoor holiday decorations before Oct. 15 and more than two weeks after Christmas), but he also owes $44,010 for a code violation stemming from 1992. The village ordered him to take down a fence in front of his house, but he argued it was a trellis, one now covered with jasmine.
Kris Kringle in Miracle on 34th Street (a film which was released in May, btw): “Oh, Christmas isn’t just a day, it’s a frame of mind… ”
Frederic Bastiat in The Law: “Life, faculties, production — in other words, individuality, liberty, property — this is man. And in spite of the cunning of artful political leaders, these three gifts from God precede all human legislation, and are superior to it. Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place.”
Fifth Amendment, Constitution of the United States of America: “No person shall be…deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.”
Quite a lineup that the
thugs scrooges on the city council of North Palm Beach have arrayed themselves against, not least of which the Creator who endowed Christopher James “with certain unalienable Rights…among [them] Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
