A day after Gov. George Pataki announced he would not seek another term, the state’s Republican Party chairman said he would make former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani his “first phone call” in the search for a candidate to succeed him.
I think that’s excellent and highly appropriate. I’ve said before that I think Giuliani is too liberal, too pro-government and too anti-free market to make a good GOP candidate for President, in spite of the fact that he has lots of admirable personal qualities. On the other hand, he’s precisely the sort of Republican that could, and should, win a race for Governor of New York.
