Walter Reed Medical center falls to the budget axe. Fair enough, I suppose, but they’re building a new hospital in a different location. If Maryland’s that much cheaper, why not move the Tomb of the Unknowns to Maryland, too?
Washington’s loss is nearby Maryland’s gain. Most of Walter Reed’s operations would be absorbed by a new hospital to be built on the grounds of the National Navy Medical Center in Bethesda, to be renamed Walter Reed National Military Medical Facility. About 1,900 jobs would be moved to the Navy center.
