HoustonChronicle.com – More teens say drugs are available in their schools
Actually those would be preteens:
Twenty-eight percent of respondents reported that drugs are used, kept or sold at their middle schools, a 47 percent jump since 2002, according to the 10th annual teen survey by Columbia’s National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse.
Middle schools, depending on the school district, are 10-12 year olds or 11-13 year olds. I believe that adults should be free to do what they want to their own bodies as long as they do it in a way that doesn’t endanger others. But when they give, sell, trade or otherwise provide drugs to 10-13 year olds that just doesn’t qualify. To paraphrase Newt Gingrich, I think we have to be prepared to say to drug dealers that if you sell drugs to 10-12 year olds we are prepared to kill you…very slowly.
Putting this under Politics: Missouri, because schools are and should be a local matter and Politics: US because I don’t have a Texas section and it’s a Houston newspaper.
