Well, conservatives can rejoice. The monopoly is broken. Hollywood’s loony left is now joined by….Hollywood’s loony right. Yes, pro-life Catholic conservatives have a dubious champion in Gomorrah, Michael Moriarty (ADA Ben Stone on the original Law & Order from 1990-1994.).
Moriarty has a fascinating theory that ties Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, America’s Founding Fathers and Mao Tse Tung (or Zedong, as is now fashionable) into a grand anti-Catholic conspiracy dating to 1188 whose purpose was none other than to legalize abortion. He dates this cult to a secret society “begun in 1188,” a date whose only reference to secret societies that I’m aware of involved not the founding of a secret society but the schism between the Order of the Temple and the Order of Sion at the “Cutting of the Elm”. These two orders are, of course, fodder for all the best conspiracy theories, but the idea that Jacques DeMolay was a 13th century protofeminist is a new tack, as far as I know. Or was Philip the Fair the abortionist and Jacques DeMolay the good Catholic? These conspiracy theories sure are confusing.
