The U.S. led coalition in Iraq has formally handed over power to an interim Iraqi government earlier than expected.
At a ceremony in Baghdad Monday, the outgoing U.S. administrator for Iraq, Paul Bremer, handed over legal documents to Iraq’s interim prime minister Iyad Allawi, formally transferring sovereignty to the interim government.
Wonderful news for the Iraqi people. To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin, they have a free country if they can keep it. May they have the best of luck and all the support we can give.
It’s really great news for Iraq – No matter what happens in November, at least the Iraqi people won’t be ruled by John Kerry.
